Nintendo's GameCube console, riding the wave of its recent price drop, has risen to become the best-selling videogame console in America since its price was reduced to $99.99 on September 25. According to Nintendo's sales data for the week ending October 4 (last week), the GameCube is outselling the PlayStation 2 in unit terms by 20%, and the Xbox by 145%.
That's certainly a sizable jump on the Xbox, which Nintendo has battled for second place in hardware sales since the two systems launched, but a 20% lead on PS2 is balanced by the fact that the GC now costs only a little more than half as much as Sony's market-leading console.
