Midway Brings Mortal Kombat to Next-Generation Handheld System; Game Boy Advance Owners Prepare for Intense Fighting-Game Action With Mortal Kombat Advance

Entertainment Editors

CHICAGO--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Dec. 12, 2001

Midway Games Inc. (NYSE:MWY), a software industry publisher and developer, announced today that Mortal Kombat(R) Advance shipped for the Game Boy(R) Advance.

"Midway is excited about bringing the Mortal Kombat franchise to the Game Boy Advance," said Helene Sheeler, vice president of marketing, Midway. "Mortal Kombat has set the standard for martial arts fighting games over the years and will continue to do so on handheld systems."

Derived from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat Advance delivers punishing fighting action, which fans of the franchise crave. In single-player mode, players choose from more than 20 playable characters -- including returning fighters, level bosses and secret hidden characters -- to stop the evil Shao Kahn and his minions from taking over the "Earth Realm." Players compete in intense hand-to-hand and special-weapon combat as they fight their way through mysterious fantasy-like worlds and unleash special combination moves and fatalities on their opponents. In multi-player mode, players can challenge their friends in one-on-one or two-on-two battles using the Game Boy Advance Game Link(R) Cable.

One of the best-selling franchises in videogame history -- with more than 19 million home games sold -- the Mortal Kombat series (first iteration was released in 1992) has garnered more than $500 million in revenue through movies, music, toys and other promotional items. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was originally released in 1995 for the arcade, Super Nintendo(R) and Sega Genesis(TM). Mortal Kombat Trilogy was later released for the PlayStation(R) game console (1996), Nintendo(R) 64 (1996) and Sega Saturn(TM) (1997).
