It takes home Best Role Playing Game. James Mielke of GMR called it "the best thing to happen to the Star Wars franchise since The Empire Strikes Back." Ooooh, take that George!

Whether you're a PC guy or console dynamo, anyone vaguely familiar with games has heard of Warcraft. So it's no surprise that this isometric wonder takes top spot for Best Strategy Simulation of the year. Frozen Throne was the expansion pack to rule them all. Dante Biasatti of Colleyville, Texas said, "I'll be sitting in front of my PC with this for a good five years. I've played it over 2,000 times online, and it's still as fun as when I first popped it in."

Bungie may have had a few detours along their development journey (that whole Xbox thing), but they finally brought Halo to the PC. Gamers bought it and enjoyment ensued. Aaron Grono of Forest, Lake Minnesota said, "There's a certain joy in blowing away a Flood enemy in midair with the shotgun. Not the most satisfying part of the game but definitely fun when you're surrounded by them."

This Italian Stallion cut his teeth as a 2D platflormer back in the NES days. Flash forward to 2003, and he's tearing up the highways in a 3D racer. With a knack for reinventing himself for every generation (not unlike fellow entertainer, Madonna), Mario proves consistently that fun still comes in the fluffy, bloodless, cartoon packages. He also wins best racer at the 1UP awards. Yay!

Yes, Tom did it again. Or rather, Ubisoft did. Splinter Cell was a hit with gamers across the board, yielding this phat (yes, with the "p-h") Best Action Game award at 1UP. No one moves, creeps, and lurks in the shadows quite like super soldier Sam Fisher. Ross Harrington of Westerly, Rhode Island was so moved by his experiences with Sam, that he was compelled to right this little rap song we will share with all of you: "Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell, Sam will save the day / With a SOCOM to your head, you had better pray." We will Ross, we will.

When Link changed-up his style, there were concerns about how the public would receive him. A cel-shaded Link was a daring step for the developers to take. Would people take to the new Link? Would they give it a chance? Well, as one wise woman once said, "the proof is the in the mutha fu#$%in pudding!" Wind Waker wins for Best Adventure Game. Adam King of Los Angeles had to confess, "I was a doubter about Link's new look, but after actually playing it, I can't believe how ignorant I was!"

Is it the excellent game play? Or maybe the in-depth customization that allows you to become whoever you want in an ancient Star Wars universe. Whatever it is, it has convinced most of you that KOTOR is the Best Game of the Year for the 1UP awards. Or maybe it has something to do with what Seth Row of Upland, Indiana discovered one quiet and lonely evening: "The game was excellent but also quite funny because you could run around in your undergarments and no one would care. Guess that's normal in that galaxy." This is the stuff dreams are made of.
