Sega Pledges Support for PSP and Nintendo DSSega has confirmed plans to produce games for the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS, the newest handheld platforms. Both platforms were unveiled this morning at the E3 Sony and Nintendo press conferences, respectively.
Since the company adopted an agnostic approach after terminating the Dreamcast, Sega has offered significant support for all existing platforms including popular and original entertainment content. The Nintendo DS will be graced with an all-new adventure game entitled Sonic DS and a new original game currently announced under the working title, Project Rub. No additional details regarding the next iteration in the hedgehog's legacy, but we do know Sega plans to introduce a new innovative control for the aforementioned original project, called "Rubbing".
Furthermore, Sega announced its initial offering for the Sony PSP – Puyo Pop Fever, based on the popular puzzle hit franchise, Puyo Pop. The PSP will also receive its own original game (sadly, no additional details to report yet), tentatively called Project S.
Sega will take advantage of the respective innovations featured in both the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. Yuji Naka from the Sonic team, expressed Sega's plans to utilize the various input mechanisms of the Nintendo DS, such as the touch screen that will offer gamers stylus or fingertip support. While Sega's PSP titles will showcase the system's wireless LAN and widescreen 16:9 capability.
We look forward to hearing more on Sega's forthcoming titles and will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
