Magna Carta Coming To PlayStation 2Korean PC developer Softmax plans to "challenge the world market" with a PlayStation 2 version of its RPG Magna Carta, Gpara.com reports today. Though the developer has no timetable for the release of its first console project, in Korea or elsewhere, Sony Computer Entertainment Korea plans to back the project as one of its first PS2 releases from a Korean developer.
The new game will be entitled Magna Carta: Shinku no Seikon. The subtitle translates to something like "crimson stigmata" -- "seikon" literally means "holy mark" or "sacred mark."
A Japanese-style 3D RPG that's drawn some international attention for its artwork and design (good enough for character designer Hyung Tae Kim to land work illustrating some of the characters in Soul Calibur II), Magna Carta was a success in its home country upon its release in 2002, but it hasn't yet made its way abroad like Softmax's earlier work.
A few years ago, though, Softmax had a noted cult hit in Japan with The Rhapsody of Zephyr, another PC RPG. Rhapsody saw release in Japan for the PC and Dreamcast in 2001 by way of Ys publisher Falcom.
While the probability of the game making its way across the Pacific doesn't seem so high as yet, the possibility is certainly there. In the meantime, you can learn more about the original Magna Carta at the English-language Softmax webpage.
