SCE Seeks Staff For Global PS2, PSP NetworkDavid SmithSony Computer Entertainment is looking to develop a common network platform for PlayStation 2, the upcoming PSP handheld, and other devices, according to a job posting published on its website lately. The advertisement seeks network engineers and system planners to create such a network "on a global scale."
Sony has been reticent about details regarding its plans for connecting the PSP to larger networks, although the handheld's 802.11b wireless networking capability could allow it to connect to game consoles, PCs, and the Internet. The advertisement doesn't offer a much clearer picture, but it suggests that the PSP will be part of Sony's plan for large-scale digital content distribution with its future game consoles and other hardware.
As far as the specifics of the two positions, Sony is seeking engineers with business-to-business and business-to-consumer Internet systems planning experience, as well as technical knowledge related to TCP/IP and Internet server maintenance. Planners, meanwhile, should have experience designing and operating similar servers and systems, particularly related to load distribution in large-scale systems. In both cases, Sony is looking for applicants with English skills, to help set up network services in Korea, North America, and other parts of the world.
