NEW YORK (Reuters)—Video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. on Monday said it has acquired the rights to develop games based on the popular "Lord of the Rings" book series, in addition to rights it holds for titles derived from the recent hit movies.

Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

EA, the world's largest publisher of interactive video games, said it already working on two new games in the series.
