Lost Meridian
Game overview
Persona 5 Royal is the official expansion for the fifth installment of the Japanese role-playing video game of the same name, featuring more unique characters, as well as many interesting quests and items. The plot revolves around a seemingly ordinary high school student who travels to Tokyo with his family to enroll in a new school there. Soon, the protagonist begins to see inexplicable dreams, in which he is told that a huge disaster will befall him in the near future.
To prevent this from happening, the protagonist of Persona 5 Royal must challenge the evil desires of others and save the less fortunate of her own. To do this, he must wear a magical mask, which makes him one of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. As is tradition with the series, the visuals are done in an anime style that will definitely please fans of the genre. The storyline has elements of both fantasy and science fiction.
As part of the adventure game, players can explore greater Tokyo, complete primary and secondary missions, and interact with characters. All dialogue is well thought out, just like a visual novel. Many times, the game will force you to fight monsters. The combat system is reminiscent of horror movies, which is why it looks very dynamic and colorful. As the game progresses, users will be able to discover new unique characters who will help solve plot problems.
Game evaluation
As someone who’s played through the original version of Persona 5 twice, the most immediately noticeable and impactful of Royal’s changes come in the realm of combat. It’s hard to keep old-school, four-person, turn-based battles interesting in this day and age, but nobody in the business does it better than Atlus. In addition to some spot-on rebalancing of abilities and enemies across the board, the role guns play in your arsenal has been totally reimagined. Bullets now refresh after each battle instead of only at the beginning of an infiltration, with the trade-off of being able to hold less ammo overall. This feels almost game-breakingly powerful in earlier areas, but as time goes on it allows guns to settle in as a much more versatile and dependable tool rather than something you hoard only for really tough enemies.
I’ll never get tired of watching Makoto and Haru double elbow-drop a harbinger of the apocalypse.Showtime attacks are another excellent addition, in which two members of your party team up for a devastating super finisher. The animations are deliciously clever and over the top, and they stylishly highlight your party members’ personalities and relationships. I’ll never get tired of watching Makoto and Haru double elbow-drop a harbinger of the apocalypse in a flashy, hilarious nod to pro wrestling. Showtimes trigger randomly, but are more likely to happen when your party is in big trouble or when you’re just about to finish off an enemy. That adds an extra layer of drama and unpredictability to especially intense battles at just the right moments.
